Philmont
Expedition - 2006
"The Beginning"
The trip began in Colorado, where we were met by
the Blue Sky Adventure team and boarded our bus for the grant
adventure. We hit the Six Flags amusement park in Denver,
visited the HUGE REI store, and then rafted Echo Canyon and the Royal George of
the Arkansas River.

As we traveled south we stopped at the US Air
Force Academy, and took a tour there that was very informative and fun
too.

We took an afternoon off to visit the Garden of
the Gods, where we explored some really "kewl" rock formations and our
imaginations began to run wild.

Up early, we drove to the top of Pike's Peak, at
14000 foot mountain where you could see forever. The wind was
howling, and the temperatures were in the forties, and for a few moments at
least, we weren't burning up and it felt like home. The
views were breathtaking, and at the summit we mounted our bicycles and rocketed
off on a grand adventure that none of us will ever forget!

After our bike trek down from Pike's Peak, we
went underground, exploring the caverns of "Cave of the Winds," a fun
filled journey that was filled with tales from the past and some strange ghost
stories that had scouts and adults alike jumping at the
shadows.

Of course, while we had a lot of fun white water
rafting and caving and mountain bike riding, what we really left home was to go
to Philmont, a "Disneyworld" for scouts in a way, where the trails
called us and the mountains waited to be climbed. For those
