UPCOMING BSA RANK REQUIREMENT CHANGES: These
changes are new for 2008,
and we’ll be implemented for the scouts in Troop 230 in accordance with BSA
policy. The new changes are not extensive, but like any BSA
requirements, they are not troop controlled and we don't have an option to
implement them or not. So, from now on, these requirements
have to be completed for the ranks indicated.
FOR
TENDERFOOT:
Requirement 9 will change to read as follows: 9. Explain why
we use the buddy system in Scouting. Explain the importance of the buddy system
as it relates to your personal safety on outings and in your neighborhood.
Describe what a bully is and how you should respond to one.
FOR
SECOND CLASS:
Requirement 8 will become 8a, and a new requirement 8b
will be added. Requirement 8 will now read as follows:
8a.
Participate in a school, community, or troop program on the dangers of using
drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, and other practices that could be harmful to your
health. Discuss your participation in the program with your family.
8b. Explain the three R's of personal safety and
protection.
FOR
FIRST CLASS:
A new Requirement 12 will be added, and old
requirements 12 & 13 will be renumbered as 13 & 14. New Requirements
12-14 will read as follows:
12. Describe the three
things you should avoid doing related to use of the Internet. Describe a
cyber-bully and how you should respond to one.
13. Participate in a Scoutmaster conference.
14. Complete
your board of review.

Class Requirement #11 / 2006 UPDATE
Tell someone
who is eligible to join Boy Scouts, or an inactive Boy Scout, about
your troop's activities. Invite him to a troop outing, activity, service
project or meeting. Tell him how to join, or encourage the inactive Boy
Scout to become active.
