Troop 230 |
In late August of 2004 the scouts in Troop 230 planned a really cool fishing trip into the Alaskan bush. The plan was to fly out in six Beaver floatplanes, and then camp for four days and nights chasing Silver Salmon at a very remote wilderness stream. The plan went well, UNTIL the rain came. The first airplane load of fisherman took off and set up the camp, just as planned. However, the next airplane load was forced to turn back when the rain increased and the visibility dropped. Soon, the weather turned into a flood, pounding the local area with heavy rain for the next two days. Our one load of fishermen had a great fishing hole all to themselves, but were forced to deal with pounding rain, some intense storms, and with only some of their planned equipment. They got soaked. Very soaked. Yet, they endured, and had fun, and caught a lot of fish while doing so. It was a learning experience for all of them, and in the end, the weather improved, the clothes got dried, and the fish got caught. So, it wasn't a total bust for the lucky few that made it to the fishing hole, although for the majority of the troop it was the big trip that wasn't. |
