The Uniform The scout uniform is extremely important. In our troop, we wear the uniform at virtually every activity. We are proud of who we are, and the way we look. Just like every hockey player and every football player wears a uniform, so does every scout in Troop 230. We do maintain a troop uniform and clothing "library" and we we have something in your size all you have to do it pick it up. If you outgrow something, don't throw it away! Instead, turn it in at a troop meeting and it will be added to the troop uniform library and perhaps will help out another scout in the future. Sometimes you get lucky...sometimes not. But regardless of how you get it, you will need a uniform. It's hard to think of yourself as a team member when you aren't dressed as part of the team. Every scout needs a full uniform, which our troop defines as follows: Class A Uniform (Full Uniform): BSA Scout shirt, with BSA Scout pants. In the winter, we authorize the solid green, winter weight wool pants sold in several stores in Anchorage and count them as "scout pants" since the official BSA pants are not warm enough for extended outdoor wear in the Alaskan winter. They look like uniform pants, match the normal uniform well, and they will really work to keep you warm. The Scout belt (leather or web style), Scout hat (encouraged), and Scout neckerchief (provided by troop on joining) make up the rest of the Class A Uniform. Merit badge sashes are to be worn at all Court of Honor events. Class B Uniform (Red shirt with scout pants): Sometimes we don't wear the full uniform, and instead you will just wear a troop authorized Class B uniform. Generally, we wear this uniform in the summer, after school is out until school begins in the fall. It works great for canoe trips, hikes, backpacking trips and most outings. You will definitly want to have a Class B uniform. The "Class B" uniform for T230 is defined as wearing your BSA Scout pants worn with a red scout shirt, either the Troop T-shirt or the BSA red shirt with collar. We do have a troop uniform "library", and before you buy something you might find an experienced part that is just your size. |
